The Clancy Brothers

The Clancy Brothers - Promotional ImageThe Clancy Brothers consist of brothers, Paddy, Tom, Bobby and Liam who led early lives in acting and other fields until they emigrated to the United States where they grouped themselves together in 1956 with Tommy Makem and released an album of Irish rebel songs, "The Rising of the Moon" on the Clancy's recording label, Tradition Records. The album was successful and little by little they gathered themselves into a cohesive group and in 1959 released their second album. This one was made up of Irish drinking songs called "Come Fill Your Glass with Us" and their fate was sealed!! Their trademark Aran wool sweaters got it's start when the Clancys' mother sent the sweaters, knitted by her sister, Peggy Quan, so they wouldn't catch their cold, in the winters of North America just before going on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1961. There have been changes over the years with various brothers going and coming back and adding other relatives to the group, but the core of the group has always been The Clancy Brothers and we hope they continue to make music for many years to come!!
